How much are hair extensions and do they damage your hair by having them sewn in?

I have fine thin hair that I'm trying to grow out, but it breaks easily due to chemicals put on it in the past and it is stressing me out trying to let it grow. About how much are hair extensions? Should I get them? Will they damage my hair further in the end or will they help me put up with my own hair while it grows? How do they sew them in? I need as much info as anyone has on the whole process and whether or not it is worth it.

With the process that you are speaking off, usually your natural hair is braided and then sewn into the braid. It is healthier to have hair sewn in than glued(bonded) in which is why is is usually more expensive. Whether it is worth it depends on your hair. It is a benefit to it because you are not constantly putting heat on your hair. If you leave it in too long. It can be a breakage problem also or if your hair is resistant to being braided.

It will cost a couple of hundred to get your whole head done...and no, they won't harm your hair.

Hair extensions are done in many different ways. The traditional sew in method is done by sewing the natural hair into cornrows. (french braids of sort) then the extensions are sewn into that hair. I wear them and have not had any problems as I work out every day. You must remember to condition your hair atleast every couple of days with a spray in leave in conditioner to avoid breakage upon removing. Another method is the hair fusion technique there is also hair bonding. The lace front wig technique that Tyra Banks and Beyonce wear are great if you can afford to purchase one. Go online and type the name of the afformentioned techniques and you will see pictures demonstrating.

this all depends on your location, you may need to buy your hair, you may have it supplied by the salon, I am in NC and I requested info from my stylist she quoted me 140.00 for the service but then I will still have to buy my hair which may cost 100.00 for a bag if one bag is enough. So it all depends on your stylist, the good part is that you should be able to wear it for 3 months, and you may need to go into the salon once a month to have it washed and styled, It will take the stress off of your hair which is good

sewing/weaving is the one option that won't hurt your hair, but do not ..whatever you do use the ones they "glue" onto your hair ... then your poor hari will break badly

It is pretty pricey and can take a good half day to put in

This is from a website called glamourhair.com they explain what each type of extention "procedure is ...

You don't want this one

Fusion, Strand by Strand, or Pre-Tipped Hair - This is a process done strand by strand in small sections. Using heated adhesive sticks and glue gun made for hair extensions, extension hair is added directly to your own hair. Hair can be bought already cut, weft removed and pre tipped with adhesive, a purging tool is used to warm the adhesive and apply it to your hair. Your hair lies over the top for a natural look. We sell a starter kit with glue gun video and all items you need to use a gun and adhesive sticks method and we sell pre tipped hair with the tool. Please see supplies or pre tipped Bodywave or Straight hair

This is the one you want

Weaving - This is a process which you create a corn row or track around the head and close to the scalp. Extension hair is sewn on the tracks. Your own hair lays over the tracks for a natural look. (click here for supplies)

Bonding - This is the easiest method. A bonding glue is applied onto the weft of the extension hair and then applied at the root of your hair. This is a temporary method. We sell bonding glue and remover. (click here for supplies)

Clip ins - Clips have been sewn onto human extensions hair. You may clip these in and out yourself. Clips can be purchased from us and sewn on a 褰?pound of hair yourself or you may order Beautiful clip in extensions made by Raquel Welch already done. (click here for supplies) Back to Top

Mini-Links - This method uses no glue, no heat, no remover and also no damage to the hair. Small circular links are used. Your own hair is pulled through in small pieces with a tool that looks like a crochet hook then the pre tipped hair is put inside the link and it is squeezed tight. To remove use pinchers to open the link. Hair can be reused. Weaves can be done with links. Make a row of links and sew extensions hair to the links. You can also use a link in certain spots that may be lifting to hold it down or make it to your next appointment. Links are also used to make a circle and sew down a hairpiece or to hold down wigs. The plus is no glue and no heat and they are very small so they lay really flat and are hard to see. Back to Top

Tape on and seamless - This is a hot new product. The wefted part of the hair is made from a polyurethane really thin flat strip that is already pre taped with a stick double sided tape. You just pull the backing off and apply the hair. Easy to do yourself. It lasts 1-5 days or you can add the adhesive we sell and it lasts several months. This is the new wave of the movie stars as the hair lies flat to the head no one knows you are wearing them if they touch your head. They are very comfortable to wear and easy to apply. Please see EasyTape Seamless hair extensions

This is my first time. What do I do?

Choose the color that matches your own hair, choose a length and curl pattern. Read how extensions are applied. There are 2 methods that can be done by your self. Those 2 are clips and bonding. Fusion and braiding need a professional or someone who is skilled with this. You may also take your new hair to an extenionist to have hair added. The most important part of hair extensions is the right hair. By purchasing the hair yourself, you are in charge of this very important decision. You will have the exact hair you want.

Hope it helps

Even though I am a man and am not qualified to answer your question, I just wanted to make a comment: I'm sure that you're beautiful just the way that you are. Stop stressing.

Extensions can cost well over $1000. It's probably not a good idea to get them, because they damage your hair.

I knew someone who had sewn in extensions, and they had to shave part of her hair to get them out.

the cost depends on where you live. In my area hair extensions can start at $100 and up and that does not include the hair. sewn in hair extensions are much better for your hair than bonding. You should go to different salons that specialize in weaves and get a consultation and an estimate of the cost and bring a picture as to the style you want. also the stylist can tell you what kind of hair to buy. your hair should help your hair to grow and when it is time to take them out go to the salon so you won't damage your hair when taking them out.
